Accidents happen. If you break your iPhone back glass, we can help.
Apple first introduced glass back in 2010 on iPhone 4, continued a similar design on iPhone 4S in 2011, and switched back to metal for subsequent design changes. Apple again reintroduced glass on metal frame starting from iPhone 8 and later models. These design changes were implemented to support the new trend of wireless charging and gain several advantages that come along with it. More importantly, glass is RF transmission friendly. Radio waves can easily pass through, which means that your 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth signals will not be affected.
Note: We DO NOT replace only the back glass; we will replace the complete back case assembly instead.
It takes about 2 to 3 hours to replace the complete rear housing with a new one depending on parts availability. Please call the store you will be visiting to check for stock availability before arriving.
Please refer to our iPhone Rear Housing Replacement page for pricing.
The back of your iPhone, also known as full housing, rear housing, back case, or back glass assembly, has a hardened glass that is precision cut to seamlessly fit into the frame, which blends into the smooth edges of the metal frame. The back glass is further reinforced by an internal laser-welded steel and copper structure. Finally, the glass is fused to the metal frame of your iPhone, which is microscopically sealed for water and dust resistance. Hence, if you break your iPhone back glass, the complete back case assembly must be changed.
Note: Replacing just the back glass involves removing the broken glass from the metal frame, applying some adhesive, and gluing the glass on the frame. The manual process and the quality of workmanship are not perfect compared to machine installation done at the factory. As a result, substandard installation and inferior quality of the back glass make the iPhone prone to liquid damage easily compared to rear housing replacement. Hence, if your back glass breaks, we strongly recommend replacing the rear housing rather than replacing just the back glass.

Here are some of the most common questions customers ask about iPhone back glass.
Yes. While it might be tempting to go for a cheap fix by just replacing the glass, iPhone users are unaware that an inexpensive repair is not always reliable. Hence, at CelMetro, we replace the complete rear housing assembly, which comes with the back glass and the metal frame.
Your iPhone will lose its water resistance if the back glass is cracked. Water and electronics don’t do well together. iPhones have a built-in battery, and water gets through the cracks and into the phone; the electric current can be sent to places that it shouldn’t go and that causes damage. Additionally, wireless charging may no longer work as expected. Cracked glass may even cut your hand if it’s protruding from the corner of the case. Do keep these details in mind if you decide to postpone servicing your device.
Apple introduced a new protective glass coating called Ceramic Shield, starting from iPhone 12. Ceramic shield promises up to 4x better drop resistance than previous iPhones, general scratch resistance, and clear optical performance for your iPhone rear cameras. The key technology in the protective glass is ceramic crystals. These small ceramic nanocrystals are embedded in the glass matrix using a high-temperature crystallization manufacturing process. The interlocking structure of crystals helps to deflect cracks and chips.
If your iPhone back glass is moderately cracked, it will not have any performance impact. However, a tiny crack or chip can quickly expand and can cause additional damage to your iPhone. Not only the broken glass can cut your hands and fingers, but it also makes it harder to use your iPhone. Additionally, your iPhone loses its water resistance, and if water gets through the cracks and into the phone, the electric current can be sent to places it shouldn’t go, and that causes damage.
