  - Connect an external hard drive.
  - Go to System Preferences > Time Machine > Select Backup Disk.
  - Follow the prompts to complete the backup.

- Make sure you have enough free space on your Mac for the upgrade. Generally, you need about 15-20GB of free space. To check your storage:
  - Click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner.
